Necco the Snake

Yesterday we took Brynn shopping for reptiles! Brynn's birthday is this month, and Repticon (reptile & amphibian convention) came to Orlando this weekend. After looking at lots of interesting creatures - including a cute crested gecko - Brynn decided on another snake. She loves to come up with unique names, and has decided to name her new pet Necco Truffle Evans...

This is a typical Honduran milk snake...

Here is Necco...

Necco is an Anerythristic Honduran Milk Snake. Anerythiristic refers to a recessive gene that is responsible for the absence of red pigments. So Necco is very pale pink(almost lavender) with black and white stripes. Don't those stripes look just like sideways Oreos?? I think of Oreos every time I look at her.

Necco has her own tank separate from Tangerine, Brynn's 3 year old corn snake. We are used to Tangerine's very docile, slow-moving ways. But milk snakes are movers...Necco is fast! She doesn't like to stay still and is just more "jumpy". It took many tries to get a photo of her holding still. She is now a little over a foot long and will grow to 4-5 feet long.

Brynn is absolutely thrilled with her new pet and thinks she is so "cute"! She also considers her snakes part of our family, so we have now become a party of 7.
